
Bob Shapiro was a founder and first President of the Concerned Actuaries Group (CAG), a predecessor of the Concerned Actuaries of the United States (CAUS). His distinguished career included consulting with Milliman; Towers Perrin Forster & Crosby; Merrill Lynch and the Shapiro Network. He was an author of numerous leading edge articles and papers relating to life and other insurance and financial issues, and in 2013 was recognized as a “Legend of the Industry” by the American Council on Life Insurance and the Actuarial Foundation. He also served on numerous boards and/or in leadership roles of actuarial and other organizations, such as being a long time Executive Board Member of the Pacific Insurance Conference, a Trustee of the American College and a Governor of the Society of Actuaries.
Bob Shapiro believed actuaries have a responsibility to address public challenges. Together, he and a group of his peers, rolled up their sleeves and went to work on making more informed, effective public and private sector decision-making possible.
